Illustrations for Esperanto Magazine
I was commissioned to illustrate a piece for Vanguard’s cover story on how political accountability has affected our government's capacity to get things done. The writer posited that lobbyists were taking advantage of these checks and balances, making it more difficult for officials to draft and execute new reforms and public works.
Illustrations for Esperanto Magazine
During 2015 and 2016 I was commissioned to illustrate various accompanying illustrations for articles featured in Esperanto Magazine. Esperanto is a free quarterly magazine made for students at Monash university that cover various topics from exploration, sex, Melbourne, money, and study.
Andrè Kupiers
The following illustration was featured within the 2015 Exploration edition of Esperanto Magazine. I was approached
by the creative director to create a portrait illustration to accompany an interview piece with Dutch astronaut Andre Kupiers. The illustration was created using Adobe Illustrator in
a stylised piece by piece method to represent rock formations found in space. Furthermore the style represents plant life which represents Kupiers study on how plant life can thrive and
survive in space.
Working for the ATO
This illustration visually represents an article written by a student who works part time for The ATO Australian Taxation Office. The article explains the persons experience in having to deal with angry, upset and suspicious people who tend to yell about their frustrations over the phone. The illustration is replacing the style of Queen Elizabeth found on the Australian five dollar note with an unimpressed look as she is being yelled at on the phone.
The journey backwards in order to move forward
The following is an illustration for the article Once a First Year, Always a JAFFY, which describes the experience of an existing student and their choice to change their field of study after completing their course. The conceptual thinking behind the illustration represents the journey backwards in order to move forward.
Juggling Act
This illustration features in the 2016 Life Hacks edition and accompanies an article written by Anne Johnston on how to manage juggling life whist at university. I was informed by client that they wanted the illustration to represent the article in a literal sense. The conceptual thinking behind the illustration is the representative of a person simply juggling aspects of what life throws at you, however sometimes you need to drop the ball in order to save the others.
